AIDS Prevention: Love Safe
We all have an urge to do intimate acts with our lover. But with the death of 1 million people from HIV every year, how safe are you from being at risk? Moreover, 1 in every 4 people with HIV don’t know they have it as reported by the World Health Organization. But what is HIV? How do we avoid risks?
Human immunodeficiency virus or HIV, is the virus that causes AIDS. It attacks the immune system and weakens your ability to fight infections and disease. It is spread only in certain body fluids from a person who has HIV. These fluids are blood, semen, pre-seminal fluids, rectal fluids, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. In most western countries, it is spread mainly by having sex or sharing injection drug equipment, such as needles, with someone who has HIV.
How do we avoid risk of HIV? Below are tips on how to avoid HIV risk.

·         Get tested and know your partner’s HIV status. Talk to your partner about HIV testing and get tested before you have sex.
·         Choose less risky sexual behaviors. HIV is mainly spread by having anal or vaginal sex without a condom or without taking medicines to prevent or treat HIV.
·         Use condoms. Use a condom correctly every time you have sex.
·         Limit your number of sexual partners. The more partners you have, the more likely you are to have a partner with poorly controlled HIV.
·         Get tested and treated for STDs. Having an STD can increase your risk of becoming infected with HIV or spreading it to other.
